Kagawad bet dies on way to poll precinct

MANILA, Philippines — A 62-year-old candidate for barangay councilor in Quiapo, Manila died of a heart attack as he was on his way to the polling precinct yesterday morning.

Felino Baligod, who was running for kagawad in Barangay 390, Zone 40, and his supporters were at his house and preparing to go to Ramon Avancena High School when he suddenly complained of chest pains at around 6:55 a.m., according to Senior Superintendent Danilo Macerin, Manila Police District directorial staff chief.

The victim suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the Sampaloc Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Baligod suffered from cardiac arrest, according to police.
