BIMP-EAGA travel tax waived

Christina Mendez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Those visiting Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia through airports and seaports in Mindanao and Palawan are exempted from paying travel tax.

President Duterte recently issued Memorandum Order 23 renewing the travel tax exemption policy for those traveling to the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East ASEAN Growth area in a bid to sustain and accelerate economic development in Mindanao and Palawan.

The tax exemption is good for another five years with a certificate from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.

The House of Representatives recommended the move under Resolution 78 passed on Dec. 6, 2017.

Duterte also directed the National Economic and Development Authority to coordinate with concerned government agencies to determine the impact of the tax exemption.  – Edith Regalado
