Body of missing foreign diver found

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  A Nauru citizen who was reported missing during a diving lesson in Batangas on Thursday was found dead yesterday.

Andre Kilbride’s body was found around 72 meters underwater in Barangay Balanoy, Mabini by dive instructor, French citizen Daniel Borgaud, at around 2:30 p.m.

Kilbride went diving after checking in with his partner Irina Pasinskaite, an Irish citizen, at the Aquaventures Diva resort.

Initial investigation showed Kilbride’s buoyancy device detached from its backplate, causing him to ascend uncontrollably.

Borgaud said he gave 25 percent of his travel gas to Kilbride before ascending when he noticed that the victim’s oxygen was empty.

Kilbride failed to surface because of the strong current.
