MANILA, Philippines — Around 10,000 policemen will be deployed in Metro Manila in anticipation of protest actions by workers and militants as part of the observance of Labor Day tomorrow, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde announced yesterday.
“We are ready to secure the Labor Day rallies, especially in the National Capital Region,” Albayalde said in a radio interview.
He ordered police officers to exercise maximum tolerance in dealing with the protesters.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Camilo Cascolan urged the rallyists to police their ranks.
The NCRPO has been placed on full alert to secure rallies to be staged by militant and labor groups.
