Workers get double pay tomorrow
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment has reminded private employers to give double pay to workers who will report tomorrow, Labor Day.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said employees are entitled to receive 200 percent of their regular pay for the first eight hours of work.
“For work done in excess of eight hours, the employee should be paid an additional 30 percent per hour,” Bello said.
He said workers whose day off falls on a regular holiday are entitled to receive an additional 30 percent on top of the 200 percent for the first eight hours of work.
Malacañang has declared May 1 a regular holiday to allow the Filipino people to observe Labor Day.
