Trike driver tries to sneak shabu into police station

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Police have filed criminal charges against a tricycle driver who attempted to sneak shabu stuffed in hamburgers into a police station in Quezon City.

Charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act were filed against Roel Sales, 30, of Barangay Bago Bantay.

Sales was arrested on Saturday night after he tried to smuggle the illegal drugs into the Talipapa police station, probers said.

Authorities said Sales went to the police station to deliver food to Jopher Guevarra, who is being held on drug charges.

Sales allegedly yielded two sachets of shabu, which he concealed in hamburgers.

In a television interview, Sales denied knowledge about the drugs.

“Hindi ko alam na may shabu iyon,” said Sales, adding he was paid P300 to deliver the hamburgers to Guevarra.

Superintendent Danilo Mendoza, Quezon City Police District Station 3 commander, dismissed Sales’ alibi, saying he was aware that the hamburgers contained drugs.

“He is a conspirator,” Mendoza said.
