Ex-town police chief arrested for murder

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union, Philippines — A former police chief of Tubao town in La Union has been arrested for murder after three years in hiding.

Chief Inspector Diosdado Mirador Mejala was collared in front of Camp Crame on Monday based on a warrant issued by Baguio Regional Trial Court Branch 5  Judge Maria Ligaya Itliong-Rivera, according to belated reports reaching this camp.

Mejala was tagged in the killing of Frank Joselito Lopez on June 17, 2014.

The case was initially dismissed for lack of probable cause, but refiled following a reinvestigation.
