More guns seized in Maguindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Ampatuan town in Maguinadano surrendered 15 additional loose firearms over the weekend. 

Mayor Rasul Sangki led the turnover of the guns to Lt. Col. Lauro Oliveros of the First Mechanized Infantry Battalion at the municipal covered court in Barangay Salman, Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, 6th Civil Military Operations Regiment and  Task Force Central spokesman, said.

At least 113 guns were surrendered by residents of Mamasapano, Pagalungan, Datu Montawal and Shariff Aguak on March 26 and 27. 

“The increase in the  number of surrendered firearms is the result of our intensified campaign,” Maj. Gen. Arnel dela Vega of the 6th Infantry Division said.

 The military said Maguindanao residents have turned over more than 300 loose guns since January. – John Unson
