Cagayan mayor’s sons held for guns

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — The two sons of a town mayor in this province were arrested yesterday for illegal possession of firearms.

Gonzaga Mayor Marlyn Pentecostes witnessed the raid on the houses of her sons Jonjie and Jondel in Barangay Paradise, Chief Superintendent Mario Espino, Cagayan Valley police director, said.

Three guns and various types of ammunition were reportedly recovered from the suspects.

Espino said Jonjie, who is on the drug watchlist, surrendered under Oplan Tokhang in 2016.

The Pentecostes brothers are alleged members of a syndicate involved in gunrunning.

Antonio Bucaneg, 57, was arrested in another police operation after a caliber .45 pistol and ammunition were recovered from his house.
