MANILA, Philippines — A man who was recently released from detention over drug charges was gunned down in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Eight others were arrested in separate stings in other parts of Metro Manila on Thursday.

Alexander Mamot, 31, was shot repeatedly while he was sitting along San Isidro street in Barangay Holy Spirit at around 2 a.m. He died at the scene.

Recovered at the crime scene were eight fired cartridge cases and a deformed bullet.

Mamot’s widow Analyn said the victim was detained at the Taguig City Jail in March 2017 on illegal drug possession charges and was released last November.

Recto San Luiz was arrested in Countryside Subdivision in Barangay Barangka Ibaba in Mandaluyong City at around 5 p.m. Thursday.

San Luis, who is on the city police’s drug watchlist, reportedly yielded a sachet of shabu and P200 marked money, said Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Biay, Eastern Police District director.

In Pasig City, Mark Anthony David was arrested while creating trouble along Afable street in Barangay Sagad at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. A sachet of shabu was reportedly found on his person.

Two hours later, Eric Cabubas was arrested for making trouble along Sandoval Avenue in Barangay Pinagbuhatan. When frisked, Cabubas also yielded a sachet of shabu.

Biay said neither David nor Cabubas are on the city police’s drug watchlist.

In Taguig City, a man suspected of killing a barangay chairman and a police officer last year was arrested in a drug sting in Barangay New Lower Bicutan yesterday morning.

Michael Mama, 33, was arrested along with Omar Mama, 25; Akmad Alima, 24; Mochiaco Usman, 19, and Ben Mama, 58, according to Southern Police District spokesperson Superintendent Jenny Tecson.

Michael is wanted for car theft, frustrated murder and robbery in Pasig City.

Tecson said Michael allegedly killed Barangay New Lower Bicutan chairman Aurelio Padilla and Police Officer 2 Angelo Villanueva on Oct. 31, 2017.

Reportedly covered from Michael were a 9mm Ingram pistol, a magazine, 44 9mm bullets and a hand grenade, Tecson said.

Michael’s companions allegedly yielded seven sachets of shabu, a .38 caliber revolver and six bullets. – With Non Alquitran, Robertzon Ramirez
