Sipadan kidnap suspect falls
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — An Abu Sayyaf bandit tagged in the kidnapping of 21 tourists from a resort on Sipadan island in April 2000 was arrested in this city on Tuesday.
Dani Suraidi, with aliases of Dad and Amdak Jumah, was collared at about 5:40 p.m in Barangay Sta. Barbara, Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, Zamboanga peninsula police director, said.
The arrest was based on a warrant for kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by a local court.
During tactical interrogation, Suraidi admitted that he was a henchman of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Albader Parad, another suspect in the Sipadan kidnapping, and Alhabsy Misaya, who was killed in a military offensive in Sulu last year.
