Makati billboard shut down after airing porn video
MANILA, Philippines — Makati City Mayor Abby Binay yesterday ordered the operator of a digital billboard to stop its operations after airing a pornographic video on Tuesday.
Binay directed lawyer Maribert Pagente, head of the city Business Permit and Licensing Office, to look into the incident and determine if Globaltronics Inc. may be held liable.
Globaltronics operates at least nine electronic billboards in Makati.
“The billboard will remain closed pending results of the investigation,” Binay said.
In a 33-second video that went viral on Facebook, a billboard at the corner of Gil Puyat and Makati Avenues showed a couple having sex.
The video was taken down by Facebook on Tuesday night.
Joseph Evangelista, chief operating officer of Globaltronics, said they would cooperate in the probe.
Evangelista said that their system was hacked.
“It was a malicious attack not only on Globaltronics but also on other digital media platforms,” he said.
Evangelista said they would ask the Philippine National Police anti-cybercrime division to conduct a separate investigation.
