Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected drug pushers died in an alleged shootout with police during a drug sting in Manila before dawn yesterday.

The fatalities, known only as alias Darwin and Oscar, died at the scene from gunshots to the body.

Members of the Manila Police District Station 11 drug enforcement unit led by Senior Inspector Juel Panganiban hatched the sting against the suspects after they received information that they were allegedly pushing drugs.

Police said Darwin and Oscar were on the drug watchlist.

Police Officer 1 Allan Hilario, who posed as a buyer, said he was able to transact with Darwin along San Miguel Road in Binondo at around 1:20 a.m.

When Darwin sensed that he was dealing with police, he and his cohort opened fire, prompting authorities to retaliate.

Probers said they recovered three sachets of shabu from the suspects.
