ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Four more members of the Abu Sayyaf group surrendered to the military in Sulu on Saturday.
The military said the suspects: Raddoh Jamah and Saddam Hussein, both residents of Talipao town; and Okim Jikiri and Abdulsali Abda Abdulkarim both of Omar town, Sulu also turned over an M16 rifle, two Garand rifles and a Colt cal-.45 pistol when they surrendered.
Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu (JTFS), said the militants surrendered to the 2nd Special Forces Battalion early Saturday morning.
Sobejana said the four militants were members of separate factions that used to be led by Sibih Pisih and Alhabsy Misaya, both now dead.
"We attributed their surrender to the efforts provided by the local government of Sulu," Sobejana said.
He said the Abu Sayyaf members "came out after they saw that the government was serious in giving them a second chance to live a peaceful life."
Their surrender has already brought to 16 Abu Sayyaf members that have surrendered in Sulu since January. A total of 28 Abu Sayyaf members have surrendered in the same period in areas where the military's Western Mindanao Command operates.
