1 dead in Divisoria mall shooting
MANILA, Philippines — A businessman was shot dead by an assailant who posed as a buyer at a mall in Divisoria yesterday.
Edilberto Pornobe, 60, died at his stall, “Dresscription,” at the second floor of the 999 Mall at around 2 p.m. from a gunshot wound in the head.
The assailant shot the businessman thrice, according to investigator Police Officer 3 Joseph Villafranca of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 11.
The victim’s wife, Maria Teresa, 59, was reported to be in stable condition after bullets grazed her elbows.
They are residents of Balut, Tondo, Manila.
Both the assailant and his lookout were carrying paper bags and wearing surgical masks, shades and baseball caps, Villafranca said.
The assailant may have slipped past mall guards with the .45 caliber pistol in the paper bag, MPD homicide investigator Senior Police Officer 3 Jonathan Bautista said.
The gunman and his look-out were able to escape by blending in with the shoppers, who panicked upon hearing the gunshots.
The mall was briefly put on lockdown but police failed to capture the suspects.
