MMDA, LGUs send personnel to aid Albay

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila yesterday sent personnel to help in relief and clearing operations in areas in Albay affected by Mayon Volcano’s eruption.

Over 100 personnel were deployed to Albay in a sendoff ceremony, led by MMDA chairman Danilo Lim and acting general manager Jose Arturo Garcia, at the MMDA headquarters yesterday.

Forty-nine personnel came from MMDA’s road safety and emergency group, according to Task Force Special Operations supervisor Edison Nebrija.

The agency would also send three military trucks containing relief goods that it gathered the past days as well as three firetrucks, he said in a radio interview yesterday.

The personnel would stay there for as long as they are needed by the Albay provincial government, Garcia said.

The Metro Manila Council agreed in its previous meeting that its LGUs would send help to residents of Albay affected by the volcano’s eruption.

The city government of Manila has donated P1 million to the evacuees in Albay.

Estrada recently sent his son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, to hand over the donation to Daraga Mayor Gerry Jaucian. – Jose Rodel Clapano
