MANILA, Philippines — A barangay captain and five other persons were gunned down in separate incidents in Luzon and Zamboanga City in the past two days.
Orbillo Paa, chairman of Barangay San Julian Sur in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, had just attended a meeting of village chiefs when he was shot by motorcycle-riding men along Quirino Boulevard in Barangay Tamag on Thursday.
Paa died while being treated at the Gabriela Silang General Hospital.
In Rizal, Ronnie delos Reyes was playing cards at a wake in Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo when he was shot.
Gerry Orca was driving his motorcycle on his way home when he was shot in Barangay San Simon, Dasmariñas, Cavite before dawn also yesterday.
In Laguna, Wilma Aguinaldo, 60, and Rufina Mendoza, 55, were in a Toyota Corolla (WDV-384) when they were waylaid along Libis road in Barangay Lalakay, Los Baños at around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Businessman Andrew Chan Wee, 45, was at his gas station in Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City when an unidentified man arrived and shot him several times at about 7 a.m. yesterday. The assailant fled on a motorcycle.
Wee suffered several gunshot wounds and died while being treated in a hospital.
