8 nabbed for P1-M fake money

MANILA, Philippines — Eight persons were arrested in Pasig and Navotas since Monday over fake bills worth more than P1 million.

Police officers of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Jaypee Balis, alias Jheppy Sanday; Aladin Akil; Satar Akil; Ramil Badang; Alpha Sabar and Watari Kusay were caught during a raid on Balis’ house on Sto. Tomas street in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig at around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Balis is allegedly the leader of the group, which is involved in producing and circulating counterfeit money in Pasig City and neighboring areas, according to Chief Inspector Arnold Moleta.

He said he and his team, armed with a warrant to search for illegal firearms, found a .38 caliber revolver, five bullets and two magazines for an Armalite rifle as well as counterfeit bills of various denominations with an estimated value of P1 million.

In Navotas, Erminda Lumida, 60, and Sharon Ancheta, 45, were arrested after they were caught buying milkfish or
bangus using fake money at a public market in Barangay San Roque yesterday.

Police recovered P58,000 worth of fake P1,000; P500; P200; P100 and P50 bills from the two women.
