MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allocated more funds for the emergency employment of workers affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello ordered yesterday the release of P30 million in addition to the P30 million earlier allocated for affected workers in Albay.

Bello said the funds would provide emergency employment or livelihood assistance to at least 10,000 individuals.

He said P30 million was allocated for emergency employment under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD and P30 million for livelihood assistance.

“We are giving them short-term income support and livelihood assistance to augment their income while they are in evacuation centers,” Bello said.

Last Thursday, around P10 million was released to 4,000 beneficiaries of the TUPAD program.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration also provided P3,000 in financial assistance to families of overseas Filipino workers who are active members and P1,500 to families of inactive members.
