BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two senior citizens were sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday for selling prohibited drugs in this city.

Alexander Guanzon, 60, alias Nene, and Gilberto Aplasca, 62, alias Toto, were also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000 each by Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 52 Judge Raymond Joseph Javier.

Court records showed Guanzon was arrested on Nov. 10, 2011 in Purok Aguho, Barangay 8 for selling 2.04 grams of shabu for P1,000 to Police Officer 3 Ivan Inoperio who posed as a buyer.

Aplasca sold .159 grams of shabu to PO1 Joebel dela Peña in a drug sting in Purok Mapalaron, Barangay 22 on Feb. 27, 2013.

In handing a life sentence, the court said the defense of the accused “was anchored principally on denial, which cannot be given credence.”

The court also sentenced Esbert Salanap, who was arrested for possession of .016 grams of shabu in Barangay 14 on Aug. 24, 2014, to a maximum of 17 years and eight months in prison.

Salanap was also ordered to pay a fine of P300,000.

The court ordered the transfer of Guanzon, Aplasca and Salanap to the National Bilibid Prison.
