DAVAO CITY, Philippines — For 15 years now, there has been no firecracker-related injuries in this city during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

There has also been no reported firecracker injury in Zamboanga City in the past five years.

The ban on the sale, use and possession of firecrackers and pyrotechnics is implemented in this city also during the celebration of the Chinese New Year and Eid’l Fitr.

The Philippine National Police said there was no reported injury from stray bullet, indiscriminate firing and fire due to firecrackers in the entire Davao region.

“Our goal is to have a safe and peaceful celebration of the New Year…This would not be possible without the dedication of our personnel together with local government units and other agencies like the Department of Health, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Bureau of Fire Protection as well as the public’s cooperation,” Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, regional police director, said.

Gaerlan said the police remains on high alert and would continue to monitor and provide security in the region.

In Zamboanga City, police spokesperson Senior Inspector Shellamie Chang said there was no reported firecracker or stray bullet incident.

Chang said the city also registered a zero crime rate on Sunday.
