Police identify man in viral road rage video

A motorist wearing a policeman’s uniform reacts during a traffic altercation in Bonifacio Global City Wednesday night in a Facebook post by Pinky Timbang Ortiz.

MANILA, Philippines — The police on Friday identified the man caught in a viral video of road rage in Taguig City.

The police located the man in a viral Facebook post and identified him as Joseph Philip Lu Bautista, a 36-year-old business consultant residing in Ususan, Taguig City.

In a statement, the police said that Bautista confessed to being the man in the video posted on Facebook by Pinky Ortiz.

Ortiz said that she and her companion were driving along McKinley Parkway in Taguig on the night of December 27. They were about to cross another street but stopped when a jeepney in front of them also stopped.

While waiting, a white Toyota Fortuner planning to turn right to McKinley Parkway stopped about an inch away from their vehicle. The driver honked his horn and turned on the emergency siren.

Ortiz said they resumed driving, but the other vehicle, that has several stickers of the Philippine National Police on it, overtook them. The driver rolled down his windows and started shouting at them, even threatening to bring them to a police precinct for beating a traffic light.

Bautista also admitted that he is not a member of the police force, but has worn the PNP athletic shirt because "they were comfortable."

Bautista likewise denied the accusations against him. The Taguig PNP, however, said they will contact the complainant so a proper case can be filed against Bautista.

The PNP will also file a case of "illegal use of uniform" or violation of Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code against Bautista.
