Davao City declares state of calamity due to 'Vinta'

MANILA, Philippines —The city government of Davao on Monday declared a state of calamity due to Typhoon “Vinta” (International name: Tembin).
The local government unit of Davao cited the urgent need “to revitalize the economic stability and to give much needed help to the people” affected by Vinta.
In its proposed resolution, the Davao City cited the damage caused by Vinta.
“Severe tropical Storm Vinta that hit Davao City last December 22 gravely affected a large number of families and cause severe damage on agriculture and government infrastructure in the different barangays of the City, which necessities relief operations, reconstruction, rehabilitation and provision of basic services,” the resolution read.
The city government also identified that there were 25 villages affected by the severe tropical storm and 18,500 families affected. It vowed to shell out P83.4 million calamity fund to aid in its residents’ relief goods, medical, and financial needs.
