Army man killed, 2 wounded in Basilan injured

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — An Army soldier and two others were wounded in an ambush in a village in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan Monday morning that is believed to have been done by the Abu Sayyaf.
Sgt. Ronel Agregado died of a gunshot wound in the lower abdomen. Cpl. Michael Santo Domingo and PFC John Banilla were wounded.
The soldiers of Bravo Company, 74th Infantry Battalion were securing a road and checking reports that an improvised explosive device had been found there when they were ambushed around 6:20 a.m at sitio Bauno Dagaw in Barangay Badja.
Authorities believe the reported IED was bait for the ambush.
The gunmen escaped in the direction of Barangay Pipil and Camamburingan in Ungkaya Pukan town.
Police, 74th IB personnel and village watchmen have launched pursuit operations against them.
The ambush follows an IED explosion near the port area of Lamitan City. Nobody was reported injured in the blast.
