Girl, 2, shoots brother dead

ILOILO CITY , Philippines  —   A Grade 4 pupil was accidentally shot dead by his two-year-old sister at their home in Tubungan, Iloilo, police said yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 in Barangay Mayang, according to town police chief Inspector Enrie Mar Madriñan.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, whose administrators reportedly failed to notify the police about the incident.

The children’s father Efren Salamillo reported the matter to the police on Nov. 9. He told probers he kept at home an improvised shotgun, which he used in shooting bats that fed on their banana plants.

He said his children could have played with the gun and accidentally pulled the trigger.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital in nearby Guimbal town.
