80 families displaced in Iloilo fire
ILOILO CITY , Philippines — At least 80 families were left homeless in a fire that destroyed more than P4 million worth of property in Jaro district here on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities have yet to determine the number of residents affected by the blaze that occurred at around 3:30 p.m. in Barangay Benedicto.
The fire was declared under control at around 4:35 p.m. and out at 7:35 p.m., according to city fire marshal Chief Inspector Bartolome Beliran.
“All 14 fire trucks of the city responded to the scene,” he said, adding narrow alleys hampered firefighters from reaching the area quickly.
The fire, which reportedly started at the compound of the Ledesma family, destroyed at least 76 houses made of light materials.
Probers are eyeing faulty electrical connection as the cause of the blaze.
