MANILA, Philippines —  A number of local government units announced suspension of classes in view of the two-day transport strike slated Monday.

Members of transport groups Stop and Go Coalition are set to stage a transport strike to protest the government’s plan to phase out jeepneys aged 15 years and older. The Transportation department said this is to modernize the transport vehicles and make them environment-friendly to passengers.

Stop and Go Coalition President Jun Magno already confirmed that the planned transport strike would push through starting Monday. Members of various transport groups are set to stage the strike in front of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board office.
