Pinatubo holiday declared in Pampanga

CLARK FREEPORT, Philippines – Tomorrow is a special non-working holiday in Pampanga in observance of the 26th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

Gov. Lilia Pineda yesterday issued an executive order suspending work in government offices and classes in schools in the province after Malacañang did not declare a holiday.

Pineda’s order does not cover Angeles City, which is a chartered city, but Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan was expected to issue a similar declaration.

In EO 09-2017, Pineda said the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo is the worst disaster to hit  the province.

“Twenty-six years after the catastrophe, Pampanga has recovered from the devastation and is now enjoying exemplary growth and development,” the EO read.

The eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on June 15, 1991 caused massive destruction not only in Pampanga but also in Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.
