MANILA, Philippines - Passengers of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) going to Mindanao should present valid identification cards during check-in and pre-flight boarding.
The airline will implement the “no ID, no ride policy” as part of intensified security measures and to prevent possible terror attacks at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said yesterday.
Villaluna said passengers should present either their passport, driver’s license, seaman’s book, National Bureau of Investigation and police clearance or Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System and voter’s ID.
PAL earlier said passengers heading to Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao, Dipolog, General Santos, Ozamiz, Surigao and Zamboanga from May 24 until July 30 may opt to rebook their tickets.
Superintendent Sheldon Jacaban, Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group chief, ordered heightened security at airports across the country to ensure the safety of air travelers after President Duterte declared martial law in Min-danao.
Jacaban said security condition 3 had been raised at airports in Mindanao while security condition 2 is in place in other airports.
Additional policemen were deployed and police desks put up at NAIA terminals to assist passengers.
Authorities urged the public to report suspicious-looking individuals and packages abandoned at the airports.
