MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development is set to send relief to Marawi City in response to the ongoing armed operations between the Philippine military and the Maute Group.

Through their Field Offices in Mindanao, the DSWD will send family food packs as well as food and non-food items to families in the region.

In a statement on Thursday, the department said that they will send a total of 20,000 FFPs, 20,000 pieces of malong, 3,000 pieces of hygiene kits, 3,000 plastic mats, 1,000 high-energy biscuits, 1,000 bottled mineral water, and 20 rolls (at 100 meters per roll) of laminated sacks will be delivered to the newly opened operations center in Malabang, Lanao del Sur.

The department is also preparing to send 10,000 additional food packs, food and non-food items and tents through its Disaster Response Assistance and Management Bureau and the National Resource Operations Center in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard.

Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said the main office is coordinating with the department's offices in the Northern Mindanao Region, Davao Region and the SOCCSKARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City) Region, as well as as with Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao officials for updates on the affected families.

She also called on the public to show care and compassion to families affected.

The Office of the Vice President has also been calling for donations for relief to be given to the citizens of Marawi City affected by fighting there.

"Let's help our fellow Filipinos who have been affected by the crossfires in Marawi City," the OVP said.

The call came after Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday ordered her office to conduct relief operations for those affected by the emergency in Marawi.

"Inaasahan nating matatapos agad ang kaguluhang ito at kakailanganin ng ating mga kababayan ang agarang tulong. Dahil dito, nagbigay tayo ng derektiba sa ating opisina na maghanda ng relief operations para sa mga naapektuhan," RObredo said in a statement.
