NPA leader killed in clash
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines, Philippines – A New People’s Army (NPA) leader was killed in an encounter with government troops in Oas, Albay on Wednesday.
Soldiers belonging to the 83rd Infantry Battalion clashed with around five rebels led by Deomidis Apiniado, alias Delio, leader and political officer of an NPA group in Albay, in Barangay Talisay at around 8:45 a.m.
Col. Alden Juan Cavalry, 901st Infantry Brigade commander, said a caliber .45 pistol as well as ammunition, a hand grenade and subversive documents were recovered from the rebels.
Apiniado was charged with three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. The Departments of National Defense and the Interior and Local Government earlier offered a P2.2 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
