Road rage suspect sends surrender feelers

MANILA, Philippines - The family of the suspect in a road rage shooting incident has sought the help of Malacañang for his safe surrender, special assistant to the president Christopher “Bong” Go said yesterday.

Go said the mother of David Lim Jr. told him that the suspect would surrender to Central Visayas police director Chief Superintendent Noli Talino.

“The family decided to follow your advice to surrender my son David Lim Jr. to regional police director Chief Superintendent Noli Talino tomorrow... Please help us facilitate his surrender and safety,” read the text message that the mother of Lim sent to Go that he showed to Palace reporters.

Go said Mrs. Lim reached out through a Filipino-Chinese businessman. 

Lim is the suspect in the shooting of a nurse following a traffic altercation on F. Sotto street in Barangay Kamputhaw in Cebu City at around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Ephraim Montalbo, 33, was wounded and confined in a hospital for treatment.

Lim is related to Cebu-based businessman Peter Lim, who earlier sought an audience with President Duterte after he was included on the list of suspected drug lords.

Peter Limis in the order of battle of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, but as a top drug trafficking suspect, he remains free. He and his brother supported President Duterte during the elections.

Investigation showed Montalbo was driving a Toyota Altis behind Lim’s Mercedes Benz when the victim honked so he could pass.

Instead of moving his car, Lim got out and kicked Montalbo’s vehicle. Lim also tried to punch Montalbo then took his gun and shot the victim in the legs. The incident was captured on a dashboard camera.  – With Cecille Suerte Felipe
