ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A high school student was killed while three others were wounded when a grenade exploded at their school in Lakewood town, Zamboanga del Sur yesterday morning.

Rodolfo Halius, 13, died while being treated at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center, where his classmates – Crishamae Repute, Jhonny Daluyon and Alonafe Clarabal – were also taken for treatment.

Reports said that a day before the incident, Daluyon found a grenade near his home in Barangay Poblacion.

Daluyon took the grenade to the Comprehensive National High School and showed it to his classmates, according to Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, town police chief.

Beltran said Daluyon buried the grenade at the back of their classroom but he and his classmates dug it up.

The victims were reportedly toying with the grenade when it exploded at around 7:30 a.m.
