Davao eyes permanent inspection stations
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao City eyes the establishment of permanent traffic inspection stations in place of checkpoints as part of its counter-terrorism measures.
“We will start at the Lasang checkpoint where there is a government property that we can use,” Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio told a city peace and order council meeting recently.
The city has checkpoints in Lasang, Toril and Marilog, which are managed by Task Force Davao.
Carpio said the permanent stations would be built this year and will have X-ray scanners and other equipment that can detect drugs, weapons and other illegal items.
Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, city police chief, said these stations are expected to boost the campaign against illegal drugs and terrorism.
“This will be high-level and definitely strengthen our security and counterterrorism campaign,” Gaerlan said.
