8 NIR cops test positive for drugs
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Eight police officers in the Negros Island Region (NIR) are facing dismissal from the service for failing the drug tests, while another has been sacked.
The eight officers have been relieved from their posts and transferred to the regional holding center as the cases against them are being heard.
The dismissed officer was identified as Police Officer 1 Ryan Lomugdang.
Chief Inspector Dianne Grace Catedral, public information officer of the Police Regional Office 18, said the eight might be dismissed from the service, noting the Philippine National Police has a strict policy against illegal drugs.
“This is part of our internal cleansing and to get rid of the scalawags in the police organization,” Catedral said.
More than 1,000 police officers were subjected to drug tests this year.
