Makati traffic enforcers undergo refresher training

MANILA, Philippines -- Around 536 members of the Makati Public Safety Department (MAPSA) underwent a retraining course to raise the level of competence of the city's traffic enforcers.

 

According to the Makati City government, the refresher seminars and lectures were attended by the MAPSA personnel on September 3, 4, 10 and 11 at the Traffic Summit Office at the 9th floor, Makati City Hall Building 2.

 

The retraining sessions centered on lectures and seminars aimed to enhance professional competence and adherence to MAPSA’s Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards, particularly on proper decorum in apprehension, in the issuance of citation tickets and on proper traffic hand gestures. 

 

“We are serious about subjecting our traffic enforcers to skills retraining. As front-liners and peacekeepers, their competence at their job affect their ability to command respect and obedience from the public,” Makati Mayor Mar-Len Abigail Binay said.

 

Binay also encouraged the public to use the official My Makati Facebook page to bring her attention to untoward incidents involving MAPSA personnel. Binay assured the public that her office will act on all complaints.

 

Earlier, Binay announced her intention to improve the image of MAPSA enforcers, who have been the butt of criticisms on social media. Aside from new uniforms, they will also be equipped with lapel cameras to promote transparency in their encounters with motorists.

 

Meanwhile, MAPSA is also set to conduct a re-training course for 500 other traffic personnel and enforcers who will be detailed in the city’s 33 barangays in the coming months.
