Zambales jail warden sacked

Bebot Sison Jr. - The Philippine Star

IBA, Zambales, Philippines – The jail warden of Zambales has been relieved from his post over alleged illegal activities, including the entry of illegal drugs in the facility.

Zambales Gov. Amor Deloso relieved Romulo Salamat during a surprise visit on Thursday.

Retired Senior Superintendent Amado Pineda was named officer-in-charge.

Deloso made a surprise inspection amid reports on the lack of healthcare facilities, sleeping areas and comfort rooms in the jail.

He said the provincial government allocated P220,000 for food, but was told that the inmates were given only a piece of fish a day.

He said a P15-million budget was approved to construct a two-story jail facility with toilets, medical facilities and kitchen areas. He said another building for sick inmates or those afflicted with contagious diseases would also be built.

The provincial government will provide livelihood programs for the inmates, Deloso added.
