Bataan allocates P5-M rice subsidy for war veterans

BALANGA CITY, Philippines – The provincial government of Bataan has earmarked P5 million this year for its rice subsidy program for some 900 war veterans and their families.

Luis Cruz, community affairs officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bataan, said the rice subsidy is in recognition of the sacrifices and heroism of the veterans.

Cruz said six cavans of rice would be given to each veteran per year and three cavans per year for their widows.

The provincial government had allocated P60 million for its rice subsidy program since 2004.
