MANILA, Philippines - Davao City posted the most number of murder incidents from 2010 to 2015, data from the Philippine National Police showed.

According to the PNP’s Crime Situation for calendar year 2010 to 2015, of the recorded index crimes for the top 15 chartered cities nationwide, Davao City posted the most number of recorded murders at 1,032.  It was followed by Quezon City (961) and Cebu City (806). Naga City meanwhile posted the least number of murders at 45 while Makati had 113 incidents.

The PNP recorded a total of 6,010 murders for the top 15 chartered cities nationwide for 2010 to 2015. Included in the top 15 chartered cities nationwide are Quezon City, Manila, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Baguio, Zamboanga, Ilolilo, General Santos City, Bacolod, Angeles, Makati, Iligan, Naga and Mandaue.

Meanwhile, Davao also ranked second among the 15 chartered cities in terms of recorded rape incidents. From 2010 to 2015, Quezon City recorded the most number of rape cases at 1,122 followed by Davao at 843.

Meanwhile, PNP chief, Director General Ricardo Marquez Friday expressed disbelief that the country’s crime and illegal drug situation could be resolved within at least three months time as promised by Davao City mayor and presidential bet Rodrigo Duterte.

“Baka salita lang yun. Kasi even in the most advanced countries with the best police equipment, drugs continue to happen. Crime will be a part of our lives and it is important sa kapulisan na naiintindihan nila yung trabaho nila,” he said.

Marquez also cautioned police officers from also serving as judges and executioners in dealing with criminals.

“Hindi ako naniniwala sa ganoong method ng policing. Hindi pwede ang mga pulis na magamit as hitmen. Kasi hindi na magiging professional ang pulis. Hindi kami naniniwala sa shortcut methods sa policing kasi wala namang karapatan ang pulis. It is not within our powers to execute,” he said.
