Senatorial bet from Negros disqualified

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has disqualified a resident of Negros Occidental from running for senator in the May elections.

Alberto Rojo of Bacolod City, who filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Comelec office in Manila, has been declared a nuisance candidate, Negros Occidental provincial elections supervisor Jessie Suarez said on Tuesday.

“I served the final notice of disqualification,” Suarez said.

He said the Comelec also served notices of disqualification to Angel Francisco Rodriguez, Enrique Erobas, Ma. Luisa de la Cruz and Ramon Lacson who filed their COCs for provincial board member, congressman in the Fourth District and mayors of Toboso and Salvador Benedicto towns, respectively.

Meanwhile, six candidates for councilor, one for mayor and two for vice mayor in various cities and towns in Negros Occidental withdrew their candidacies.
