PNP steps up CCTV installations in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has started meeting with various government and non-government agencies to expedite the implementation of its CCTV installation project in crime prone areas in Metro Manila. 

 

The PNP,  through the Directorate for Information and Communications Technology Management headed by Police Director Rodrigo De Gracia, on Wednesday staged an exploratory meeting with the stakeholders on the project.

 

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas initiated the project in a bid to curb the growing crime incidents in the different areas in the metropolis with priority on the identified crime prone areas.

 

It is aims to maximize the effectiveness of the Oplan "Lambat/Sibat" anti-crime drive. 

 

During the meeting, the PNP and the stakeholders shared best practices and technology and to explore the possibility of using other government and non-government’s facility to enhance the project.

 

The project would closely monitor and record all incidents in crime prone areas for the police to execute immediate police action based on the live feed of the CCTVs and recordings may be used in investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.

 

The CCTVs will have a direct link to the nearest police stations through the use of Internet Protocol radio where police officers could easily track, monitor, or capture all the incidents in the crime prone areas.

 

The project is the continuation of the initial installation of four CCTVs on each 38 police stations and five police district offices completed last January 20.

 

The project is expected to be completed by second week of April 2015 for Metro Manila. It will be replicated in highly urbanized areas nationwide to complement crime prevention and solution.
