Red tide alert in Pangasinan coastal waters lifted

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The costal waters of Pangasinan are now free from red tide toxins, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) announced in its latest shellfish bulletin.

Only the coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate and in Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Orani, Abucay and Samal remain positive for paralytic shellfish poisoning, BFAR said.

The agency warned that all types of shellfish gathered and collected from the affected coastal areas are not safe for human consumption. Several species, including fish, shrimps and crabs, are safe to eat provided that these are caught fresh and washed thoroughly and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.

Several areas surrounding Manila Bay remain free from red tide toxins, including the coastal waters in Bulacan, Cavite, Las Piñas, Parañaque and Navotas.
