80 families left homeless in Cavite fire

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — An electronics engineer died after being trapped inside his burning house in Cavite on Thursday night.

Reports said that Jade Lapasaran, 27, was overwhelmed by the thick smoke and fainted during the fire that started around 9 p.m. at Barangay Niyog 3, Aguinaldo Highway, Bacoor, Cavite.

The blaze, which razed 60 houses and rendered 80 families homeless, was put out by firefighters around 11:45 p.m.

Firemen had difficulty putting out the flames as the roads in the area were narrow, reports said.

Arson investigators suspected that an unattended lit candle cause the fire, which destroyed an estimated P1.2 million worth of property.
