Cloudy skies, isolated rains over Phl on Obama visit day

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos might get a respite from the summer heat due to the isolated rains expected today, according to the forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the whole country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

However, the agency said the Visayas will be affected by the easterlies, which is associated with warmer temperature.

PAGASA said in its Twitter account that as of 8 a.m., light rains are already affecting parts of Metro Manila such as San Juan, Mandaluyong and Pasay and may persist for less than an hour.

Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are also affecting Pateros, Taguig, Makati and Mandaluyong as of 9 a.m.

The weather bureau added that light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast over Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

United States President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive later this afternoon for his first visit to the Philippines.

Obama and President Benigno Aquino III will be holding bilateral talks in Malacañang.
