Ginamit na campaign materials, maayos na itapon - DENR

MANILA, Philippines — Hinikayat ni Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Acting Secretary Jim O. Sampulna ang mga kandidato ng  2022 national at local elections na linisin at itapon ng maayos ang kanilang campaign materials alinsunod na rin sa nakasaad sa Republic Act (RA) 9003 o ang Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

“Win or lose, these candidates must consider the long-term consequences of their campaign materials in the environment. Therefore, they must encourage their supporters and volunteers to take down these materials, especially those made of plastic, and dispose these properly,” sabi ni Sampulna.

Anya ang DENR sa pakikipagtulungan na rin ng local government units (LGUs) ay handang tumulong sa Commission on Election (Comelec) upang matiyak na magkakaroon ng resolusyon na mag-aatas sa mga kandidato na tanggalin ang kanilang election materials matapos ang bawat campaign period.

“We will make sure that the existing environmental laws, such as RA 9003, will strengthen the resolution,” dagdag  ni Sampulna.

Sinabi rin ni Sampulna  sa mga kandidato na buuin ang kanilang grupo upang maglinis ng boluntaryo sa halip na maharap sa posibleng paglabag pagkatapos ng election season.

Inirekomenda rin ni Sampulna ang pagsunod sa recycling at upcycling ng campaign materials upang mabawasan ang mga by-products na dadalhin sa mga dumpsites.

Naglabas na rin ng advisory ang Department of the Interior and Local Government na miyembro ng National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) sa lahat ng LGUs upang paalalahanan sa mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng mga probisyon sa RA 9003.
