Man nabbed for enrollment scam

Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly demanding more than P20,000 from a woman in exchange for getting her son enrolled at the Unibersidad de Manila.

Celso Dimanlig, 50, was caught in the barangay hall of Barangay 737 after he tried to escape a police sting at around 2:40 p.m.

The woman filed a complaint with the Manila Police District’s Special Mayor’s Reaction Team after Dimanlig failed to enroll her son after initially collecting P11,000 from her.

The woman’s son failed the university’s entrance exam and his grades did not meet the university’s standard, police said.

Dimanlig, who admitted he has no authority to get the boy into the university, was charged with estafa and robbery extortion.
