Man held for credit card fraud

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested a 38-year-old man for using a stolen credit card in Mandaluyong City Wednesday.

Members of the Anti-Cybercrime Group arrested Stephen Francis Lucena, 38, in a shopping center in Barangay Wack-Wack after trying to pay for a mobile phone worth P45,990 with a credit card that belongs to another person.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo de Jesus, ACG officer-in-charge, said Lucena’s modus was discovered after the store manager verified the credit card information with the financial institution—a process usually done when the amount to be paid exceeds P30,000.

The ID submitted by Lucena did not match the picture of the credit card owner, prompting the store to call the police.

Superintendent Jay Guillermo, ACG spokesman, said they were able to establish that Lucena already bought more than P300,000 worth of goods using the stolen credit card.

The suspect was charged for violating Republic Act 8484 or the Anti-Access Device Act.
