QC laundrywoman wins P50.6-M lotto prize

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 48-year-old laundrywoman from a shantytown in Quezon City claimed the P50.6-million jackpot of the 6/55 Grand Lotto’s March 4 draw, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) announced yesterday.

The winner – who lives with her elder sister – does household chores for her in exchange for the education of her two children and her family’s basic expenses, according to PCSO acting chairman Jose Ferdinand Rojas II.

She said her husband’s salary as a carpenter cannot meet their daily needs. “We just tried our luck in lotto,” she said.

Rojas said the winner picked the winning combination – 07-08-10-19-48-55 – based on her age and the birthdates of family members.

The winner plans to buy a house and lot, share her winnings with her sister and save the rest in a bank, he said.
