NCRPO to close probe on Jolo shooting this week

MANILA, Philippines - The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is expected to close its investigation on the reportedly accidental shooting of Cavite Vice Gov. Jolo Revilla this week.  

NCRPO chief Director Carmelo Valmoria said yesterday he is waiting for the result of the probe conducted by a special investigating team on the incident.

“We have no other intention on this investigation but to close the case,” Valmoria said in an interview.

He said the team, headed by Muntinlupa police chief Senior Superintendent Allan Nobleza, has gathered affidavits regarding the incident.

Valmoria said the Revilla family, through lawyer Raymond Fortun, is cooperating in the probe.

The NCRPO chief earlier said they have to conduct an investigation to determine what really happened amid speculations that Revilla tried to commit suicide.

“Whether or not Revilla’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, we have to conduct an investigation. This is part of the job of the police,” Valmoria said.

His family maintained that the vice governor was cleaning his government-issued caliber .40 Glock pistol when it went off, hitting him in the right part of the chest on Feb. 28.

According to Valmoria, Fortun promised to submit his client’s statement to the NCRPO today.

Revilla remains confined at the Asian Hospital. His mother, Cavite Rep. and actress Lani Mercado, said yesterday that his condition continues to improve.

Mercado said her son’s bleeding has stopped. She added that a chest tube to help him breathe has been removed.
