MMDA tags 3,889 Commonwealth speed limit violators
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has so far tagged 3,889 vehicles from Jan. 29 to Feb. 15 for violating the 60-kilometer per hour speed limit along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
According to MMDA assistant general manager Emerson Carlos, the vehicles were caught by digital cameras and speed radar guns used by traffic enforcers stationed at strategic sections of the 12.4-kilometer highway.
Carlos said vehicles that broke the speed limit were not stopped by the enforcers following the “no-contact apprehension” policy of the MMDA.
According to Carlos, notices have already been sent by the MMDA to the registered owners of the tagged vehicles informing them of their infraction, as well as of the P1,200 fine that they may settle at the MMDA’s main office in Makati City.
The MMDA ealier said that unless the fine for speeding is settled, the Land Transportation Office will not process the registration renewal of the tagged vehicle.
The MMDA said it would still “perfect” its speed monitoring operation along Commonwealth Avenue before replicating it along other major highways, such as the Roxas Boulevard and Quirino Avenue.
